The man, approximately 30 years old, was walking across Columbia Road at the Exit 14 ramp from Route 93 North before 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, when a red sedan slammed into him, Boston police said. The man, whose name was not released, received potentially life-threatening injuries in the crash.
The sedan, possibly a Honda Accord with dual tailpipes, was driving east on Columbia Road when it smashed into the man, throwing him through the air and into the ground further down the road.
The red sedan raced away at high speed, along with a white SUV near the crash.
A Massachusetts State Police sergeant provided emergency medical aid to the injured man until medics arrived.
Paramedics took the man to Boston Medical Center for treatment. He is currently expected to survive, police said in an update.
The crash is under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash or the vehicles involved at the scene is asked to call the State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County at (617) 727-8817.
